Steven Montinar is a New York City based sculptor and installation artist. Constructed from found objects and acrylic plastic, Steven's work centers around Teleology, Black Cultural Studies, and Hip Hop Theory. The Carnegie Mellon Alum’s artistic practice has been showcased internationally in festivals, exhibited in traditional and non-traditional galleries, published, and acquired for permanent collection by major museums, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, Museum of Modern Art, and The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

“My practice is a teleological subculture–a conflux of Hip Hop, sculpture, and fashion founded on introspection. The pieces are artifacts, inventions of self-sustainability, fabricated from the sampling and substitution of found objects. Through recontextualization, I reimagine pre-existing systems and mirror the evolution of my cultural identity.”
